Sweet As Crêpes began in 2007 when an ambitious twelve-year-old girl called Annabel Shepherd set up a stall at the very first Coatesville Market north of Auckland. The name was a play on words incorporating Annie’s own initials.
The single crêpe maker and a queue each week soon grew and multiplied into a small family business.
We specialise in making large, thin, fresh French crêpes on the spot. Over the years, traditional flavours such as tangy Lemon & Sugar, Apple & Cinnamon and Butter & Sugar have been complemented by favourites such as Salted Caramel, Nutella & Banana, and the ever-popular Berries, Chocolate & Cream— giving our offering a distinctly Kiwi twist. We’ve also added a range of savoury crêpes which are proving extremely popular. Our best-sellers are the Classic Ham & Cheese and the Very Vege—cheese, feta, pesto, semi-dried tomato, fresh basil and cracked pepper are all wrapped up in a large thin, crêpe and toasted to perfection so that its crisp on the outside yet molten and deliciously gooey on the inside.
Some people enjoy just watching us “twirl” our crêpes; most cannot resist having a taste! We now have a huge following of local crêpe-lovers who seek us out, loyalty cards in hand, to get their crêpe “fix” wherever we are. From small beginnings, we now run two unique, custom-built food trailers at markets, school fairs, private functions, weddings and corporate events from Auckland to Matapouri.
You’ll find us at the Catalina Bay Farmer’s Market every Sunday from 8.30am-2pm.
